Here is a fine cup and saucer set from the Great Northern Railroad, in the sought after "Glory of the West" pattern. This is a full size set, not a demitasse, made by Syracuse China for GN dining car operations.
This set is in excellent condition with only very light surface marks from use. You must tilt the pieces in bright light to find them. There are NO cracks, chips, flakes or repairs. The colors are strong and bright, enhanced by the shadowtone and fade techniques that Syracuse China was famous for.
Both pieces have matching GREAT NORTHERN RAILROAD markings on the undersides. The cup is date coded 5-JJ (May 1956) and the saucer is date coded AA-4 (April 1946).
Collectors of this pattern appreciate that each different piece incorporates a view of Rocky Mountains, rivers and lakes that passengers might see through the windows of speeding dining cars. as they enjoyed their meals.
