I was pleased to have been able to acquire this fabulous desk stand from a high end estate auction. It doesn’t exactly meet the description of an inkstand, but I am calling it that for lack of a better term. The gray is just over 10” in diameter with a central lidded compartment which is 3 1/4” in diameter. It’s motif is neo-classical, with women and Cupid’s in relief. The piece is hallmarked “Tiffany & Co.” on the back. And weighs just under 5 pounds. Stylistically this looks to date from around 1900. Perhaps the central compartment was meant to hold stamps or other similar items. This would make a fantastic desk piece, or it could be used as a serving tray.
